The last couple times I've gone through Trader Joe's I've
noticed a new product in their bakery section. Trying to be "good"
I'd avoid it and make my way around the store. That is ... until I cracked a
few days ago and placed a pack of Trader Joe's Jelly Donut Muffins
into my shopping cart.
The idea is enticing ... especially if you're a donut or
truly a baked goods fan. I do enjoy an occasional muffin or donut from time to
time. So without a doubt I was intrigued as to what the two would
taste like morphed into one. According to the label, the product "looks
like a muffin, tastes like a donut with a delicious raspberry jam
filling."
Looking at the muffin itself, it's your standard regular
sized muffin, which has raspberry jam pipped in the middle of it, which pools
on the top of the muffin. Sprinkled on top is your classic white sugar which
adds a bit of a crunch. The overall look of the muffin is promising ... but
what's even better is that first bite.
The first bite was fabulous ... deliciously odd even. Not
odd as in gross .. but odd as in a "how exactly did they make this taste
like that?" It's got the quality of a muffin, but the taste of a donut and
the sugar on top adds that little bit of gritty crunch that's classic in a
jelly donut. The raspberry jam is piped to the middle and top of the muffin, so
if you take a big enough bite you get the whole shebang.
They're delicious and the perfect little treat for the baked
goods lover in all.
Each muffin is 320 calories or 8 points plus values.
