Sheila G's Brownie Brittle - Salted Caramel

I introduced myself to the Sheila G line of Brownie Brittle a couple years ago after seeing it time and time again at my local supermarket. It wasn't until I started spotting the different flavors in stores, that I "expanded my knowledge" on the product.  So needless to say, when I found the Sheila G's Brownie Brittle in Salted Caramel while out shopping, I had to pick up a bag.

If you're unfamiliar with brownie brittle - it's a treat that's what you'd get if a brownie and a crispy cookie had a baby. It's a crisp, crunchy flat snack.  It's your classic rich chocolate brownie flavor that's crispy, flattened and crunchy. It undoubtedly cures the "brownie itch" if you're having one. It kills two birds with one stone: crunchy and sweet.

I admit, I was intrigued because it was labeled salted caramel. I love salted caramel beverages and desserts ... so I went into this with high expectations. Unfortunately, the salted caramel flavor was a miss. The caramel wasn't very noticeable and the salted was few and far between (meaning there may be 1 piece of salt on each crisp).  Regardless of the fact ... this is still delicious because it is brownie brittle. But if you're going into it hoping for a strong salted caramel flavoring, you will be utterly disappointed.

Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle – Toffee Crunch

I’m a big fan of brownie brittle, so when I spotted the Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle – Toffee Crunch I picked up a bag. Brownie brittle is a snack/dessert that is your classic milk chocolate brownie flavor, but it’s thin and crispy like a crunchy, crispy cookie.

In a similar fashion to the other brownie brittle varieties available, the brittle brownie brittle is topped with a bit of added sweetness. The toffee crunch variety is topped with toffee, but it’s not hard pieces of toffee, it resembles melted toffee which is slightly chewy and slightly sticks to your teeth when eating. I don’t find it to be overly sweet, I think it’s a perfect level of sweetness..  It’s crunchy, chocolaty, delicious, and somewhat addicting. It’s great on its own, but it’s also good accompanying a small bowl of vanilla ice cream.

My local wholesale club sells the chocolate chip variety, but from what I’ve heard the other varieties are available at stores like Bed Bath and Beyond – but I have also found them at the Christmas Tree Shop.

Chocolate Chip Brownie Brittle

This here is Chocolate Chip Brownie Brittle by Sheila G also referred to as brownie crack. Seriously, this stuff is AMAZING! When this first popped up at my grocery store last year, I thought it was something you had to bring home to bake (thinking it was brownie mix). I was given a bag to try because my love of brownies and chocolate chip cookies was known.

Brownie Brittle is what you’d get if a brownie and crispy cookie were married. Basically it’s brownie batter, that’s poured into a pan (in a very thin layer) and baked off. Since the layer is so thin all moisture is lost and it becomes very crunchy, crispy and delicious. This particular variation is the chocolate chip variety (there are 4 other flavors available – walnut, toffee, salted caramel and mint chocolate chip, but I’ve found them to be difficult to find). The chocolate chips are on top of the brittle adding a little extra sweetness. They come in 2 sizes -- a smaller 4 oz bag which has 4 servings in it and a GIGANTIC 20 oz bag that has 20 servings (which are sold at wholesale clubs, etc).

I’ve considered possibly trying to make this -- but I also wonder if I’d end up burning it to a crisp. I will say, if you like brownies and you like cookies -- I’d strongly suggest picking this up if you ever come across it. It’s totally worth it!

Each serving is 6 of the crisps, which are typically pretty big sized pieces.  A serving is 120 calories or 3 points plus values.

Brownie Brittle – Traditional Walnut

Brownie Brittle is this little creation I stumbled upon almost a year ago.  My local grocery store has been selling the chocolate chip variety for probably, at least a year and I had been hooked from the moment I tried it.  On the back of the package the Sheila G brand advertised a walnut and toffee version and I had never been able to find it until a number of weeks ago.  I was shopping at The Christmas Tree Shop and stumbled upon both the walnut AND toffee variety!  They both made a home in my carriage until I got to check-out.

Firstly, let me say Brownie Brittle is a life altering experience (haha).  No, really it is.  Whoever thought to take brownie batter and to make it into a thin, crisp layer to imitate a crisp cookie is a genius and I want to give them a hug.  You get that nice chocolate flavor you get from brownies, but it’s very crispy and crunchy.  The walnuts give it a nice woodsy flavoring which adds a little more crunch.  They’re a perfect snack and totally delicious.  And the greatest part?  6 pieces is a serving.  So it takes something that’s sinful (a brownie) and makes it into this genius little serving where you feel like you’re having more than you should for a very limited amount of calories. Genius!

If you’re a brownie fan or even a crispy cookie fan I would suggest getting your hands on these.  They’re 3 points plus values for a serving.
