Trader Joe's Turkey Corn Dogs

Corn dogs are one of those fun, guilty pleasure foods I enjoyed as a young kid ... and admittedly I've enjoyed them in adulthood. Think about it ... a hot dog covered in a sweet batter that's been deep fried? Heaven! Even though they're a fun food ... it doesn't necessarily make them a healthy option. Anyway, I was pretty excited when I found the Trader Joe's Turkey Corn Dogs one afternoon while shopping.  A quick check of the nutrition facts, into my shopping cart they went.

I tried these out a few times (from the same box) ... actually using the two different cooking methods provided on the box (microwave or oven). I have to say ... I did not like these either way. The breading itself is yummy, it's got that classic corn bread flavor - slightly sweet, textured and delicious. When microwaved it's softer but when baked in the oven it's got a crispness to it. Although ... it's the actual turkey dog that turned me off. The dog was rubbery, chewy and I found it to just be all around the wrong texture for a corn dog.

So many people rave about these being all around delicious ... and part of me thinks maybe I got a bad batch. Once I give the vegetarian version I picked up a try - I will have to revisit the turkey corn dog to see if perhaps my suspicions are true.

A serving, 1 corn dog, is 150 calories or 4 points plus.
