Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Grilled, Seasoned & Fully Cooked White Meat Chicken Strips

I popped into Wal-Mart one evening after work and for some reason ended up in the refrigerator section near the prepared meats (heat and eat bagged chicken, pulled pork/chicken containers, etc.). I wanted something quick and easy to have on hand so I opted to give the Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Grilled, Seasoned & Fully Cooked White Meat Chicken Strips a shot.

I admit, I’m a big chicken snob. If there’s any fat on it, stringy bits or any hint of a vein my stomach pretty much taps out. Upon opening the package, I was surprised to see the chicken strips inside the package pretty much resembled the picture (you know how food marketing goes). The outside of the strips weren’t as darkly colored as the packaging, but it wasn’t a big deal. I weighed out a 3 ounce serving and wrapped the rest up for another day (which ended up being part of my lunch one day along with a salad).

I have to be honest and say I really liked these – much more than the Purdue Shortcuts. These are flavored well – they are not quite a barbecue, but they have a smoky flavoring to them. They come off as real white meat chicken strips – not chewy like some of the processed stuff can echo. I did find two small pieces of fat on two separate chunks of chicken – but even for my picky stomach that wasn’t a nail in the coffin.

A serving, 3 ounces, is 140 calories or 2 smart points.

Jack Daniels Beef Brisket

I purchased a pack of Jack Daniels Beef Brisket at Target when it was on sale.  I had seen this particular product time and time again but had yet to purchase.  On the look out for something new, I decided to grab a pack and have it for lunch one day.

I heated the pack up per the directions – piercing the bag and placing into the microwave.  When done I weighed out my serving – 151 grams.  I paired it up with a baked potato and some canned carrots.  The carrots and potato were delicious but the brisket was mediocre.  It was alright but not something I was a huge fan of.  It was passable as a meal, but not enjoyable and I like to enjoy my food.  The brisket was fatty so I spent a majority of the time cutting the fat off the meat and feeding it to my dogs. They enjoyed it.

I’ve tried a few of the Jack Daniels line items and while I do enjoy the pulled chicken, it is very sweet.  The glaze used on the beef brisket is also sweet, but not sickeningly so.  A 151 gram serving was 5 points plus.  Worth it?  Eh, I don’t know if I’d say it was but it was a meal…

QUESTION:
Have you tried any of the Jack Daniels heat and eat meals?

BBQ Pulled Chicken Pizzas!

I made my boyfriend and I BBQ Pulled Chicken Pizzas for dinner the other day because I was feeling inspired and I really wanted something different to eat that was new and somewhat exciting.  I had picked the items up, unrelated to one another and decided to whip them together.  I was quite pleased with how it turned out because I have purchased the Jack Daniels Pulled Chicken in the past to pair with salads – but my boyfriend wasn’t too keen on it because it’s a sweeter BBQ sauce and not a tangy one.  If you’re wondering why there is a pizza with cheese on it and one without – my boyfriend isn’t necessarily a self proclaimed fan of cheese (as I am) so his pizza was made simply sans cheese.

To create these I used the original multi-grain flavored Flat Out bread, 5.3 ounces of Jack Daniels Pulled Chicken and on mine 1/3 cup shredded fat free mozzarella.  I baked them off in a 350 degree oven for 8-10 minutes (really until the cheese was melted and the chicken was heated through).  I enjoyed mine with a side salad … yummers!

Weight Watchers PointsPlus Value wise – this was 8 PointsPlus for the whole pizza (including cheese), 7 PointsPlus without it.

Have you ever made a healthier pizza alternative at home?
