Fiber One Limited Edition Pumpkin Bar

Let me take a moment to introduce you to my newest little friend from the Fiber One brand .... Fiber One Limited Edition Pumpkin Bar. I buy Fiber One products once in a while, but I don't eat them often because the added fiber can reek havoc on my stomach. But when I saw these pumpkin bars ... I knew I had to try them, and I am so glad that I did.

Before I really get into it I will say this: if you're a pumpkin fan, go to your local Target/Wal-Mart (or if you really enjoy them your local Costco) and pick up a box before they are gone for good.  The bars are truly perfection. They're soft and moist (seemingly moister than your average Fiber One bar). They are a true pumpkin flavor without being crazily artificial, there's a subtle sweetness to it with what appear to be white chocolate chips scattered here and there. They add a nice contrast in texture and the drizzle over the top is perfection.

Seemingly one of my favorite pumpkin desserts to date ... which sadly are only available for a limited time. The pumpkin lover in me wishes these would be available year round, because, yes, they are THAT good.

Dunkin Donuts Iced Pumpkin Macchiato

I used to not be much of a Dunkin Donuts girl. That is until my boyfriend introduced me to the dark side (that being the Chips Ahoy iced coffee - which sadly they no longer carry). Seeing all the hype online about Dunkin's offering macchiato's ... I decided to give it a try. So, on my way back to work on my lunch break I decided to pick up a large Dunkin Donuts Iced Pumpkin Macchiato.

The iced macchiato is a layered beverage which includes brewed espresso, milk (your choice of whole or skim), ice and pumpkin swirl flavoring. Personally I find the pumpkin swirl to be sweet enough that a large only needed 1 packet of sugar substitute (equal/splenda). The milk is actually flavored with the pumpkin swirl and the espresso is then layered in over the ice and milk to create that gradient effect.

Of course the moment I was given my beverage, I made sure to swirl it all together using my straw to incorporate all the flavors together. I'm not one for a bold shot of espresso without milk or sweetener involved. The macchiato itself is very good. It's got the classic boldness from the espresso, the sweet pumpkin flavor and I found the two extremes in flavors really balance themselves out.

The only cringe worthy part was the price tag. In my area, a large (after meal tax) was $4.27. Granted, it's still cheaper than going to Starbucks (which a venti would actually be smaller than Dunks version - you'd have to stretch for a trenta to compete). But in comparison to the 2 large iced I can get for 80 cents more ... I think my iced pumpkin macchiato days are going to be treated as treats and not an on the regular purchase.

According to the Dunkin Donuts website, a large beverage (made with skim milk) is 100 calories or 2 points plus values.

Quest Protein Powder - Peanut Butter Flavor

I've heard rave reviews about Quest protein powder and since I was in the market for a new protein powder I decided to give Quest a shot. I submitted an order online and received a container of Quest Protein Powder - Peanut Butter Flavor. Out of all the flavored protein powders Quest provides, I think I have heard the most about the peanut butter so it definitely peaked my interest so I decided it was time to give it a try.

I ordered my powder from Vitacost and received it within 2-days. Finishing up my existing protein powder I waited a few days before I cracked into this baby ... and I have to say, I'm VERY impressed with this product!  A serving is a pretty substantial scoop of protein powder.  The powder itself is finely milled and reminds me a lot of powdered peanut butter (PB2).

I added a scoop of protein to my nutribullet, 4 ice cubes, a banana, 1/2 cup cashew milk and 2/3 cup water. I let it blend and it came together perfectly. The peanut butter flavored protein is smooth, creamy, airy (not really frothy but it's got a lightness to it when blended), undoubtedly peanut buttery (it reminds me a lot of the flavor of PB2), and has no aftertaste or chalky taste. It's undoubtedly one of the best protein powders I have tried on the market. A smoothie keeps me satisfied because there's a whopping 23 grams of protein in a serving. Granted, there's not much fiber in the mix (1 gram), which would keep you satisfied longer, but if that's a concern you can always add a scoop of fiber supplement or bulk the smoothie up with other additives to keep you going.

Overall, I'm quite a fan of this and would strongly recommend it, especially if you're in the market for a good tasting protein powder that isn't chalky or unsatisfying. I'm looking forward to experimenting with this ... of course, it's perfect in a smoothie, but I think it'd be a great way to skyrocket the protein in a bowl of oatmeal or even adding the powder into pancake batter to bulk up the protein intake. The possibilities are endless.

Yoplait Greek 100 Calories - Orange Creme

I'm a pretty avid Yoplait and Dannon Greek yogurt fan, pretty much if I see a new flavor, I'm going to give it a try. One of the flavors that's been out for a while, but I haven't been able to find anywhere has been the Yoplait Greek 100 Calories - Orange Creme.

I have seen this shown on numerous Instagram postings for months and I finally found the allusive yogurt at a local Wal-Mart. Sadly, not all retailers carry this flavor ... and sadly I only purchased one container while at the store. Note to self: buy more when you find this again.

Granted, with that statement you can pretty much sum up the fact that I completely LOVE this yogurt! It tastes just like an orange creme popsicle. It's got that cool orange flavor, while having a creamy vanilla base which in my mind tastes along the lines of the ice cream in a orange cream popsicle. It's definitely a dessert like yogurt, that I'd enjoy as an after lunch or dinner "dessert". It's refreshing, delicious and a complete win for me. I need to venture my way back to my local Wal-Mart to get a couple of these to stash away in the refrigerator when I want something dessert-like.

Fruit Dips - Just Ripe Banana

I have seen the Fruit Dips - Just Ripe Banana over and over again at my local grocery store but had yet to pick them up until I was in the mood for something along the lines of ice cream. I'm a banana dessert junkie so I decided I just had to give these a shot. Particularly after my coworker turned me onto frozen banana slices topped with nutella (sorry for that tidbit).

The box describes the frozen dessert as a "premium frozen fruit bars dipped in rich chocolate coating." They're smaller in size, but big enough to be satisfying and satisfy that sweet tooth. The bar itself is made of mashed up frozen bananas which are frozen to a stick. It's then coated in a thin layer of chocolate which help bring fourth the banana flavor and natural sweetness of the fruit. It's the right amount of sweetness to be a suitable dessert and satisfying enough when you want something cold to cool you down. I found it to be quite enjoyable - more so than the chocolate covered frozen bananas they sell in the grocery store and at local fairs.

These are sold in a number of different flavors. Just to name a few: strawberry, coconut, and they're also sold with a Greek yogurt topping instead of the chocolate.

A serving, 1 pop, is 92 calories or 2 points plus values.

Trader Joe's Meatless Breakfast Patties

Every once in a while I like to try meatless products to switch things up a bit. I'm not anti-meat, but sometimes things get boring and need a little exciting different things thrown in the mix. With that, I opted to pick up a box of the Trader Joe's Meatless Breakfast Patties one afternoon and popped them in my freezer. I pulled them out the other day to have prepared for breakfasts for a few days.

For not being made of meat I have to say these breakfast patties are really quite good. Size comparison they're about roughly the same size as Morningstar Farms breakfast patties, whereas in comparison to your average round pork breakfast patty these are roughly larger than those. You can choose to heat these in a pan on the stove top or heat them in the microwave (cooking time varies based on the amount of patties cooking at once).  I personally opted for the microwave option because I was trying to move the food preparation process along a little faster.

Taste wise, these have the classic flavor notes of regular sausage patties. They're not greasy tasting or fatty flavored - they're just spiced quite well. Cutting into them, they appear to have the same texture as regular sausage. Flavor wise they're pretty tasty (spice wise), not bad at all. They are a little softer in texture (if you're comparing it to regular sausage) but they're no where near mushy. The outside has a decent crust on it, which leaves the insides relatively moist.

A single patty offers a gracious 7 grams of protein, which is pretty spectacular in my book.

A serving, 1 patty, is 80 calories or 2 points plus values.

Yoplait Greek 100 Calories Whips! Coconut Macaroon

This has to be one of the most exciting yogurt finds I have stumbled across in a while. When the Greek Whips line launched I was quick to try a few of the flavors available ... but let me introduce you to one of the newest (and my favorite): Yoplait Greek 100 Calories Whips! Coconut Macaroon.

The Yoplait Whips are a Greek yogurt which is whipped, which leaves the yogurt with a very light and airy consistency. The consistency is more along the lines of freshly made whipped cream. Flavor wise it's definitely a healthier rendition of a coconut macaroon. The coconut flavor is there on center stage, but it's not overwhelming nor is it artificial tasting. The smoothness and creaminess of the yogurt give it that macaroon vibe.

Even though these have a few grams of protein less (9g) than your average Greek yogurt (12g), I still think these are a perfect little snack to have on hand from time to time. It definitely switches things up and can give your yogurt game a little twist. Plus it's a new texture to confuse your palette with.

A serving is 100 calories or 2 points plus values.

Yoplait Greek 100 Calories - Honey

Back in the day when I first started getting into Greek yogurt, I'd try to ease the way into the transition with honey flavored yogurt. Of course not all Greek yogurts are the same ... but thru the course of time, I've found my new all-time favorite honey Greek yogurt. Let me introduce you to Yoplait Greek 100 Calories Honey.

The yogurt itself is moderately thick in consistency, while having a pretty straight forward honey flavor. It's not overly sweet, not boldly artificial, but just right. The yogurt isn't tart (which is appreciated) and has a nice sweetness to it. I enjoyed it alongside some fresh fruit which paired perfectly.  This would be perfect straight out of the container, made into a parfait, or even served topped with some cereal (as a substitute to milk). Overall, I really enjoyed it and I'm glad to have found a honey flavored Greek yogurt that isn't an assault on my taste buds.

A serving is 100 calories or 2 points plus values.

High Brew Coffee Cold Brew Coffee - Salted Caramel

Cold brew coffee has become quite the rage. I've tried a few in the past but haven't tried any of the cold brews that are ready to drink (meaning they have some amount of sugar/milk in them). I spotted the High Brew Coffee Cold Brew Coffee - Salted Caramel at my local Target and decided to pick up a can to give a try.

I popped the can in the refrigerator and decided to have it alongside my breakfast one morning ... and I have to say, I was really impressed. It's a bolder coffee flavor, but it's not bitter/acidic (which is typically what cold brew is known for). It's smooth, slightly sweet and has a mild creaminess to it. The salted caramel flavor is in the background, but it's more of a subtle caramel then say a bold salted caramel.

Overall it was quite an enjoyable glass of iced coffee. I liked that the flavors all balanced well against one another, without any singular flavor category cancelling another out or being overwhelming. That reason alone, I tend to steer away from prepackaged coffee beverages (that already have sugar and cream/milk in them) because they can either be too sweet or too overly creamy. This was a perfect balance.

Tera's Hunger Control - Satiety Blend - Organic Protein With Fiber and Oat Bran

One afternoon on a waltz through Whole Foods, I noticed some pre-portioned travel friendly packages of Tera's protein powders. One in particular grabbed my attention so I picked up a package of the Tera's Hunger Control - Satiety Blend - Organic Protein with Fiber and Oat  Bran. Since I am a bit of a protein powder snob I decided paying a little more upfront to get a  "sample size" would be cost beneficial in the long run than buying a full container of it (just in case I didn't like it).

I've heard rave reviews on some of the Tera's protein powders in the past but hadn't quite jumped on the band wagon because I didn't want to shell over $30 out for a container of protein powder to perhaps not be a fan. The fact that the package stated hunger control sold me because there are time where I feel as though I cannot satisfy my hunger. So any thing with added protein and fiber is the way to go.

The protein powder itself is a dark chocolate flavor, which when blended with a bit of frozen fruit, cashew milk and a handful of spinach is actually pretty tasty. The chocolate is rich and flavorful - definitely a show stopper. The flavor is enjoyable and doesn't have any chalky aftertaste that can sometime be present with protein powders.  Satiety wise, I did feel it was filling and satisfying. It curbed my appetite until dinner time so it did the trick.

As with any protein powder I'd suggest picking up an individual serving before shelling out for a full container of it just to make sure it suits your taste buds. Secondly, I found this protein powder to vary in pricing on nearly every website I've checked ... so shop wisely friends!

Trader Joe's Chunky Artichoke & Jalapeño Dip

Since I’m such a fan of the jalapeno Greek yogurt dip, I decided to pick up a container of the Trader Joe's Chunky Artichoke & Jalapeño Dip. I could tell through the packaging alone it was going to be a lot different from the other dip (outside of just the flavor profile).

The dip itself is pretty good. It is relatively thick with big chunks of artichoke running through it. It has a bit of a Greek yogurt/cream cheese flavor. Personally, I find it to be a little plain, good, but I also felt there was an absence of jalapeño flavor especially since I am in love with the Jalapeño Greek yogurt dip (which is spicy - see review here). It's got a little bit of saltiness to it, but I wasn't picking up on any true zip of flavors with the dip itself.

This particular dip I didn’t feel was really a vegetable dip. Perhaps celery would be the extent of the vegetables for this dip. I found it to be most enjoyable with some sort of a cracker. I had some everything flavored naan crackers that I used with this and enjoyed it.  Since the consistency is thicker, it’s more along the lines of a cream cheese like dip/spread for crackers.

According to the Trader Joe's website:

"Trader Joe’s Artichoke Jalapeño Dip has two creamy elements at its base: a lighter, Neufchâtel cream cheese and plain Greek yogurt. Blended together, these two create a rich, thick, creamy, tangy canvas—the ideal “blank slate” upon which to create a satisfying dip.

This one includes the eponymous artichokes and jalapeño peppers, as well as Jack cheese and a bit of garlic. It has a bit of a kick but isn’t spicy, so it’s good for all kinds of dipping. It’s delicious right out of the fridge, and takes on an entirely different taste and texture when heated briefly. Spread it on sandwiches or replace your baked potato’s sour cream with a dollop of this. Taste it. That’ll surely seal the deal."

Trader Joe's All Natural Uncured Chicken Hot Dogs

With the spring and summer months amongst us, I'm always on the hunt for a decent replacement to a hot dog.  I do enjoy an occasional old fashioned hot dog ... but since there really is no real nutritional value from it, they're very few and far between. But with the summer months amongst us, sometimes you just want a hot dog off the grill. So I figured it was better time than never to try out the Trader Joe's All Natural Uncured Chicken Hot Dogs.

The first thing I noticed was that these particular hot dogs are more closely along the lines of your average hot dog. They're plump and they're in the same color family. These aren't a "natural casing hot dog" so don't expect a nice crunch when you bite into them. They do have a little bite to them, but it's more along the lines of a skinless hot dog bite. You can tell they're they're certainly not a pork hot dog, although I find they taste much better than beef or turkey hot dogs. They're smooth in texture and quite good for a knock at the original.
Better yet there are no nitrates or nitrites added so they're far better for you, let alone the fact the fat and calories are slashed across the board.  Overall, these chicken hot dogs aren't bad. With a little ketchup, mustard and relish and a side of baked beans you're pretty much one in the crowd.

A serving, 1 hot dog, is 60 calories or 2 points plus values.

Trader Joe's Mango & Cream Bars

I've seen the Trader Joe's Mango & Cream Bars time and time again but had yet to pick them up for a variety of reasons (not going home right away, deciding to get them 'next time', etc.) That is until recently ... the weathers been getting nicer and that only means I want a nice sweet treat as a reward for putting up with the change in weather.

I admit I saw on the box there were 8 bars in a pack. I admit I sized up the box trying to figure out how big these bars may be. Upon opening the box I learned they are actually smaller than I imagined (there's also a little more breathing room in the box than I assumed there would be). Case in point the bars are small but not teeny tiny. There's also no stick to hold onto - the bars are packaged in sort of a "push up pop" fashion (minus any plastic or tools). You merely unwrap it and use the wrapping as your stick to keep your fingers from freezing off.

Taste wise it's very much mango. It's along the lines of a very smooth tasting mango Popsicle. The outside edge is a slightly thick cream which really brings the two flavors together and smooths them out. It mellows out some of the natural sweetness of the mango flavoring and makes it refreshing. It brings fourth a bit of an ice cream vibe while also maintaining that Popsicle flare.

Overall, it's rally unique and tasty. The bars are undoubtedly refreshing, spring/summer approved and a new favorite of mine.

Chocolite Crispy Caramel Chocolates

I stumbled upon an interesting food find at my local The Christmas Tree Shop: Chocolite Crispy Caramel Chocolates. These are a sugar free brand of chocolate which are advertised as a delicious alternative to regular chocolate. They're also coined to be a good chocolate alternative for folks who follow programs such as Weight Watchers, Atkins or South Beach.

The candies themselves I have to say are quite good. They don't taste sugar free or anything different from any average caramel covered chocolate. The only thing that is "different" about them is the caramel is a little chewier and a different texture than your average caramel ... but it really wasn't that bad nor that noticeable. The crispy bits create a nice contrast between the caramel and chocolate giving it a good bite. The chocolate is a good flavor and I found a package with 2 caramels was more than enough to satisfy and curb my sweet tooth.

If you are looking for these online, the product is sold by the company Healthsmart Food which is located in Evansville, IN. From a quick Google search I've seen these are sold on a number of websites such as Heathsmart Foods, Amazon, Netrition, iHerb, etc. I found these readily available at my local Christmas Tree Shop (they were in the aisle with the nutrition bars).

Trader Joe's Reduced Guilt White Meat Chicken Salad

Chicken salad is one of those meals that I've grown to love. It's simple, it's easy and it's perfect to have all year round (especially in the summer months). I've always checked out the chicken salads at Trader Joe's because they look delicious and I am a fan of their curry chicken salad. So, needless to say when I spotted the new Trader Joe's Reduced Guilt White Meat Chicken Salad I nearly jumped for joy and popped a container in my shopping cart without even batting an eye at the ingredient label.

I was excited because it was a pre-packaged chicken salad that wasn't loaded with a ton of fat and unnecessary calories. I portioned out 3 meals from the container (two for lunches and one as a late night dinner). I layered the chicken salad onto a tortilla, added a little lettuce and wrapped it up. I took a bite ... and was immediately heart broken.

This chicken salad contains no mayonnaise! The dish consists of grilled chicken, celery, carrots and onions which are mixed with low fat Greek yogurt and spices. Even with all that, unfortunately, the Greek yogurt gives the salad a very tart flavor. It's very plain tasting on the flavor scale. I added some salt and pepper to it to hope to give it some pizazz but it fell short. Sure, it's creamy, but it's missing that classic tang you get from mayo. Admittedly, when I make chicken salad at home, I don't use a lot of mayonnaise and I tend to cut it with yogurt ...but I just can't jump on the yogurt as a mayonnaise substitute in a dish where mayo is one of the main ingredients. I tried adding a tablespoon of light mayo to it and mixing it in but the tartness from the yogurt just overpowered it.

I was just not a fan at all and ended up tossing the container. Which I have to admit was kind of cringe worthy because a container is nearly $5. I'll stick to my homemade chicken salad that takes a little time to prep but is on point in the flavor category.

Trader Joe's Mini Hold the Cone! Chocolate Ice Cream Cones

Since I was such a fan of the vanilla version I of course had to give the Trader Joe's Mini Hold the Cone! Chocolate Ice Cream Cones a shot. Admittedly chocolate ice cream isn't my favorite, but sometimes I want a different flavor of something as a treat.

Hold the Cones are miniature ice cream cones which are great for when you want something small, sweet and refreshing but you don’t want whole lot of something. They’re perfect because they not only taste delicious but they’re also adorable and miniature. I find they give you the right amount of everything. A few bites of ice cream, a few bites of chocolate coating, and a few bites of a delicious crunchy yet chewy ice cream cone.

The ice cream itself is good quality chocolate ice cream. It's creamy, it's chocolaty but it's not overwhelming. The chocolate coating on the top of the ice cream balances well with the chocolate ice cream. The coating being a dark chocolate so the two pair perfectly without being overly sweet. They're a great treat which is guiltless.

A serving, 1 cone, is 70 calories or 2 points plus OR you can have 2 ice cream cones for 140 calories or 3 points plus.

Yoplait Greek 100 Calorie Whips! Tropical

I have evidently been on a mission to try all of the new Greek Whips that appeal to my taste buds. One of those was the Yoplait Greek 100 Calorie Whips! Tropical. The tropical Greek yogurt is one of my favorites so I figured a whipped version would be perfect ... and it truly did not let me down!

As I've mentioned in a previous review the texture of this yogurt is a far cry from your average Greek yogurt. It's not thick, heavy, or "wet" in consistency. It's light, airy and has a mousse texture to it. It's flavored well, giving a jam packed 9 grams of protein, while also remaining light and airy at the same time. Definitely a different twist on a yogurt which can make for a refreshing dessert or snack option.  I have seen some people using this as a cream between graham crackers - kind of a nod to the old school Weight Watchers cool whip "ice cream sandwiches."

The flavor of this is very much tropical. There's hints of mango and pineapple which give it a very sweet, refreshing "tropical" vibe. It's very much reminiscent of its Greek yogurt variety, which is enjoyable because now depending on whichever texture I'm looking for I can reach for one or the other.

Trader Joe's Maple Chicken Breakfast Sausage

I saw this product advertised under the new products section of the Trader Joe's website. Since I like a protein to accompany my eggs I decided to give the Trader Joe's Maple Chicken Breakfast Sausage a try. Typically my sausage of choice is either chicken or turkey just because of the healthier stats.
The sausages in the package looked promising so I cooked them up one morning to enjoy along with my breakfast, but also to have prepared as part of my meal prep for a few days. The sausages cooked up perfectly in a non-stick pan, browning on each side. They are fully cooked, so you've really only got to warm them up and brown the casings to your liking.

Unlike your "traditional" precooked or frozen breakfast sausage, this product is in a casing. I found the casings bubbled up a bit and browned, but didn't get quite a sear compared to the sear you can get on other frozen breakfast sausages. Plating up my breakfast, I found the sausage was slightly tough because the casing was rather thick. Not insanely thick, but thick enough that it couldn't be easily broken in half with a plastic fork. Flavor wise it was your classic chicken sausage, which was flavored with a mild maple flavor. The sausage wasn't sweet, but it had a hint of maple flavoring in the background.
Overall, the sausages weren't terrible ... but they certainly weren't a favorite of mine.

A serving, 2 sausage links, is 90 calories or 2 points plus values.

V8 Healthy Greens

When I saw that V8 had released a new line of vegetable juices I was intrigued. Intrigued most notably because they were offering a green juice variety. After searching for them for weeks on end, I finally spotted the V8 Healthy Greens at my local grocery store (that is even without having my coupon on hand!).

Since I haven't been feeling 100% as of late, I decided to crack open the juice in hopes it would live up to the hype I built up in my head. Admittedly, I find a lot of the green juices/smoothies on the market are overly sweet and can only be consumed in small quantities. That is, except some of the cold pressed juices at places like Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and Target which are more green tasting than overly sweet juice.

This V8 definitely falls in that more green tasting than sweet juice. It's actually, quite bitter to the point I'm not really a fan. It tastes like someone threw spinach, romaine, carrots and celery in a juicer then at the last minute decided it was too tart and popped a granny smith apple into the mix. It's bitter, not sweet at all and is really like drinking a liquified salad. Admittedly there is no added sugar or artificial ingredients, which makes this a healthier option ... but it's not tasty. Definitely, not my forte to say the least. I don't want it to go to waste, so I think I'll end up popping some into an ice cube tray and freezing, then using an ice cube or two in a smoothie mix.

Yoplait Greek 100 Calories Banana Caramel Greek Yogurt

I'm a Greek yogurt fan to the core, but there's a piece of me that has a weakness when it comes to banana flavored yogurts. If it's new and it's got banana anything in it, I'm going to buy it ... try it and either love it or hate it. Case in point a new find courtesy of Wal-Mart's refrigerator section: Yoplait Greek 100 Calories Banana Caramel Greek Yogurt.

My immediate thought was this would be similar to say a bananas foster yogurt. I was game and sold immediately. But since I have slight issues with caramel flavorings in yogurt (they can come off overwhelming, too bland or far too artificial tasting) I opted to purchase only 2 containers. Which after trying this I was kind of glad for doing so.

The yogurt is in a round about way, a big ole miss, which was disheartening. I mean, it's alright ... but nothing to light a candle against the Dannon Banana Creme yogurt.  The flavoring is a milder banana flavor with a small hint of caramel in the background. By hint, I mean, you have to really seek out the flavor otherwise it can be missed entirely.  It's okay ... it'd probably be better served over some fresh fruit with a little granola on it ... but it is not a contender as the best banana yogurt find. It's different, but I wouldn't rush out to find them again.
